Post Concussion Management

 

If you were to hurt another part of your body, the instant thought is to rest the body part. A concussion calls for the same treatment...REST of the brain.  Resting the brain includes both physical and mental rest.  Mental rest is accomplished by limiting or discontinuing use of electronic devices such as tv, texting, or gaming systems as well as homework, studying, etc.  

 

Once the concussion symptoms have resolved the athlete will be slowly progressed to full activtiy.  Law AB-2127 which was passed January 2015 states that any athlete now requires a 7 day return to play protocol.  Our doctors will progress you over those 7 days to full participation and monitor you for any return of the symtoms and ensure the concussion has completely resolved prior to full participation and contact sports.
